Digital Garden

Welcome to my portfolio, here lies electric sheep and disrupted sleep

What is the Digital Garden?

This is a place to log and share my engineering and computer science projects.

Currently the main project taking up my time is a hardware overhaul of a Robi robot from japan, designed by robotics expert Tomotaka Takahashi. It uses robotic bus servos and has a friendly aesthetic originally inspired by the works of Osamu Tezuka. which makes it a perfect base to develop a testbed platform for machine learning and social robotics. However It needs a major hardware overhaul to support AI research is which is where my project comes in. It also serves as an alternative path to learn more advanced mechatronics and a platform to apply what I learn in my studies.

About me

I have a diploma in game design and have done an IT traineeship in the past.

I have worked at a local coffee shop for 9 years making coffee, drawing signs and maintaing/refurbishing the machines and sometimes doing odd repair jobs for customers. I am usually spending most of my free time trying to work on projects with the limited resources. This often involves repairing damaged goods or building my own tools but gives me a better understanding of how things work.

My Interests

My interests are many and extremely varied, however these days I enjoy working on robots and learning about machine learning. I have been facinated by AI embodiment, social robotics and Machine Ethics from a young age, often enjoying science fiction and shown a wide variety of different technology from the past 100+ years, collected by my grandfather over his life.

My Limitations

As with any other person I have my limitations when it comes to work and stress, unfortunatley I have a more limited capacity in some areas due to life long sensitivities, anxiety and bouts of depression. This means I need to rest more than usual and often results in naps and gaps of progression at times, my focus seems to be erattic at times but usually because I see something that could contribute to my main projects or intrigues me greatly.
